Ronda was born on May 14, 1947, in Fulton, MO, to George “Red” Carrington and Flora “Flo” Carrington. She grew up in Fulton and later graduated from the University of Missouri. On December 6, 1969, she married Frederick “Fred” Selby, in Fulton.
Ronda began her career as a dedicated schoolteacher, working for Fairfax County Public Schools from 1980 to 1986 while Fred was stationed in Washington, D.C. She later pursued a second career as a paralegal with the Federal Government, serving from 1990 until her retirement in 2006. After retiring, she enjoyed a peaceful and fulfilling life by the riverside in Montross, Virginia (Glebe Harbor). Not so long ago, she severed as a member of the Board of the Glebe Harbor Civic Association and later served as President.
As an Army wife, Ronda supported Fred and her family throughout his 20 years of military service. She was actively involved in the wives’ club, serving as Club President in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and participating in various military activities. Her strength and dedication were evident during every move and deployment. Ronda was also a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Katy and son Tyler, never missing a sporting or school event, always helping with homework, and providing wise counsel through life’s challenges.
In Frankfurt, Germany, the Selby family was honored as Military Family of the Year, largely due to Ronda’s contributions and leadership in the community.
Ronda is preceded in death by her parents, Red and Flo Carrington, and her in-laws, Harold and Mona Selby.
She is survived by her loving husband, LTC (Retired) Fred Selby; her daughter, Katy Knoll, and son-in-law, Andy Knoll; her son, Tyler Selby, and daughter-in-law, Emily Selby; and her four grandchildren that she was very proud of and adored: Riley Selby, Gus Knoll, Tucker Selby, and Lilly Knoll.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Montross, VA, and Lees Summit, MO, at later dates.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to your favorite charity.
