Rosalie Ann Ekstrom

Rosalie was born in New Bern, NC to William Joseph Lucas and Anne Rosalie (Fernandez) Lucas on August 3, 1939, and was one of three sisters. She grew up in New Bern and graduated from New Bern High School in 1957 and attended Sacred Heart Junior College in Belmont, NC in 1958.

She married John Simonson Ekstrom on February 24, 1962, at US Naval Station, Mayport, FL. As a Navy family they lived in many wonderful places including Jacksonville, Washington DC, Seattle, Monterey, San Diego, Charleston, Virginia Beach and Honolulu. They resided in Annandale, VA until their retirement, and eventually moved to Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove, VA. They spent many happy years traveling the world, spending time on the water, and enjoying life with their family and many friends.

Rosalie was involved in the Navy Officers’ Wives Club and worked for several companies including General Motors, H&R Block, Great American Van Lines and ended her career as Comptroller for Ocean Marine Systems. Rosalie was always stylish, and loved music, dancing, cooking, entertaining, gardening, traveling, and enjoying life to the fullest.

Rosalie is preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, and her older sister JoAnne Elizabeth (Lucas) Carlough.

Rosalie is survived by four daughters, Kathleen (Ekstrom) Whitman and Jon Whitman, Elizabeth Ann (Ekstrom) Mestre and Ricardo Mestre, Andrea (Ekstrom) Willey and Karl Willey, and Sarah Lucas Ekstrom; sister, Mary Kathryn (Lucas) Mobley and Reichard Mobley; five grandchildren, Brittany Register, Dominic Mestre, Alicia Mestre Bruce and Shayne Bruce, Maya Willey and Lily Whitman; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Annandale, VA, followed by a Celebration of Life at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. Interment services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, VA, at a later date still to be determined. Arrangements are by Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA.
