Rosemary K. Molchany, 94, of Springfield, VA, passed away on July 17, 2021 in Arlington, VA. Rosemary was born in New Village, NJ on March 13, 1927 to Slovak immigrants Andrew and Anna (Mazak) Kupsky. Her given name was Ruzena Maria and it was later Americanized to “Rosemary”. The family spoke Slovak at home, and, as in a lot of immigrant families, children learned to speak English at school. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School in Allentown, PA and then attended Whitehall High School. Rosemary was a talented writer and received numerous awards for her writing, including winning a prize for composing the best school creed, which became the official creed of Whitehall High School. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and earned a scholarship to attend Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. She excelled there too. Rosemary was a member of the Delphi Honorary Society (comparable to Phi Beta Kappa) and the Tabard Honorary Literary Society. Rosemary was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education, graduating with honors, in 1949, and has a teaching certificate. She moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for several years. She married Paul John Molchany, of Cementon, PA, on September 9, 1950. Rosemary was an avid baker, bowler, and organist, and was interested in all things related to language, music, and fashion. Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Kupsky, and her husband Paul J. Molchany. Rosemary is survived by her son Kevin Vincent Molchany, grandson Andrew Murphy Molchany, his wife Holly (Hansen) Molchany, and great grandsons Kellan Joseph and Eli Kenneth Molchany; daughter Karen Patrice (Molchany) Corcoran, her husband Robert James Corcoran, and grandsons John Andrew (Jack) and Thomas Lloyd Corcoran; and son Keith Andrew Molchany, his wife Youn Joo Kim, and grandson Martin Kim Molchany. Pallbearers will be Kevin and Andrew Molchany; Robert, Jack, and Thomas Corcoran; and Keith Molchany. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8304 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA 22152, with Pastor Mark L. Boriack, of Prince of Peace, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. Arrangements are by Demaine Funeral Home. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. The families of Kevin, Karen, and Keith extend our sincere thanks to family and friends who have loved and supported Rosemary and us. We especially thank Dr. Vincent Chen, her long-time physician, Manal Mahmoud, her caregiver, Margie Sekandi, and the community at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
