Shirley Stone Bolstad

Shirley was born in Borger, TX to Frank and Unis Stone on August 20th, 1933. After graduating from the University of Texas, she taught elementary school in Corpus Christi, TX. During a summer break she and her girlfriends took a trip out to California where she met a young Naval Officer, D. Bruce Bolstad. After six weeks of courtship they married on November 27th, 1957 at the Chapel on Naval Air Station Moffett Field, CA. They enjoyed 48 years of happiness together until Bruce passed away in 2005. Together they earned several Dance trophies. They sang in the choir at Aldersgate United Methodist Church for 25 years. He sang and she was active with the Alexandria Harmonisers for several years. Shirley worked with local theater groups acting in and producing several plays. In her final years she enjoyed reading scripture for the services at the Fairfax where she lived after Bruce passed. Shirley was known for her ability to talk to anyone. Her diplomatic skills could have brought the “Hatfields” and the “McCoys” to a peaceful understanding of their differences.

Shirley is preceded in death by her daughter Brenda and her husband Bruce.

She is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Janet Bolstad; her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Zachary and Lauren Bolstad; her grandson, Kyle Bolstad; and her great grandson, John Bruce Bolstad. All of Franklin, TN

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, on the 5th of February, 2022, at the Chapel in “The Fairfax” senior living community, Fort Belvoir, VA. Chaplin Bill Perry will officiate. A reception will follow.

Shirley will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband and daughter. A date has yet to be determined.
