Dear Becky,

This morning Lynne opened a Christmas letter we just received from Janie B, and we were both shocked to learn of Terry's passing.  Terry and I grew to be young men together while at UNL as roommates for over two and one-half years.  The memories come flooding back.  We had a great time together.  

After we both married our KD sweethearts, while Terry was in grad school and I was in law school, we met every Wednesday after class to play pool, with the loser paying for the pitcher of beer.  I got to pay for the first three months or so, and Terry, with that impish smile and laugh, would make the best of it.  As a result I learned a great lesson and I owe it all to Terry.  The lesson is that a little effort every day accumulates and eventually goes a long way.  After paying for the beer every week I decided I would stop at the student union pool room every day after class and practice for 20 minutes.  It cost me a penny a minute. Of course I never told Terry.  Eventually I beat him and never paid for another pitcher of beer after that.  I actually got good enough to beat him while keeping it tantilizingly close.  I didn't want him to know I was practicing because I knew he would then spend his life practicing.  He was a ferocious competitor, but one who always had a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye.  

Last Sunday, as the Tide was trouncing Notre Dame for the national championship, I thought about calling Terry because I knew he would be watching the game and loving every minute of it, having spent time at the University of Alabama's ROTC as an instructor.  Terry was always a great story teller and loved telling me about meeting Coach Bear Bryant while at UA.  It would have been nice to have heard Terry's voice and ready laugh just one more time.

Borman, you will be sorely missed.

I met Reed during our studies at the University of Alabama.  He and Becky became good friends of mine during that experience and I cherish their friendship.  I am deeply moved as I think back over our friendship. My deepest sympathy goes to Becky and their family. His love for his family was one of Reed's remarkable attributes. I met Reed and his son Eric working my first job for Boeing out of college.  Eric and I became close friends working (ok, well occasionally "working") together  and in the process I grew to know Reed and the family and enjoyed our conversations over free bagels both social and work related.  I remember both his passion for Nebraska football and Data Warehousing.  The football stuff I got, but as an entry level software tester the Data Warehousing concept went right over my head.  But I always aspired to get to a point where I did understand so I could actually add a little to our next conversation.  It's not often that you actually get a chance to work with your dad and I know I always envied that element that Eric and his dad shared.  I was very sorry to hear of his passing and my prayers are with the Bormans and the rest of the family!  - Dennis
