Thomas Jacob Hyer, 86, of Manassas, VA, passed away peacefully on February 12th 2021. He was born in Sutton, WV, on January 28, 1935, to Thomas “Tate” and Pearl Hyer and grew up in Glenville, where he attended Glenville State College. After earning a master’s degree from George Washington University, he began a long and successful career as an educator, coach, and administrator in Fairfax County Public Schools. He enjoyed nothing better than being in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He loved his family and friends, and always made time for both. He was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte, and daughter, Sue Ann Morgan. He is survived by a large, loving and devoted family, including wife, Glynn Hyer, of Manassas, VA; his sister, Christine (Harry) Bush, of Naples, FL; his children, Nancy (Jim Russell) Hyer of Brentwood, TN, Sally (Mark) Hash of Charles Town, WV, and John (Ceily) Hyer of Denver, CO; his son-in-law, John Morgan of Martinsburg, WV; his grandchildren, Jonathan (Gabriella) Hash of Ranson, WV, Julianne Russell Hyer of Oakland, CA, Lindsey Hash, Molly Morgan, Addison Morgan and great-grandson Judah of Martinsburg, WV, Tate Hash of Charles Town, WV, Charlie Hyer and Gabriella Hyer of Denver, CO. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy (Murph) Meadows of Madisonville, KY, Michelle Peninger of Woodbridge, VA; brothers-in-law, Jim (Beverly) of Boerne, TX, Bob (Kathleen) of Magnolia, TX, Fred (Rebecca) of Gautier, MS; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
