

Walter Curry Carter, Jr., passed away on March 10, 2022 in Alexandria, VA at the age of 84. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Elaine Marie Carter (nee Van Dunk). His parents Walter and Crystal Carter and his brother Melvin Carter preceded him in death. He is survived by his aunt Grace Stubbs and several cousins.
Walter was born in New York City, but has been a resident of the DC Metro area for over 48 years. He earned his Associate's degree from the University of Maryland; Bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Mary's College; and Master's degree from Central Michigan University. Walter also proudly served in the US Air Force for 22 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his military career, he worked for AT&T as a Corporate Resource Manager until retiring again.
Walter and Elaine traveled extensively. Their favorite destination was always Hawaii, but they also toured Europe and enjoyed time aboard the Orient Express. As well, he was an avid and accomplished photographer ~ studying it formally, participating in travel tours, and winning several awards for photos he had taken. Walter’s other true love was baseball and more specifically the Dodgers. He was a fan from Brooklyn to Los Angeles!
Friends are welcome at a service to celebrate and honor Walter’s life at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, VA beginning at 11 am on Wednesday, March 23. Memories and refreshments to follow. Virtual link for those unable to attend the service in person is below in the service details.
