June 29, 1931 – July 7, 2025
Betty Norrod, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully with her family by her side July 7, 2025.
Born in 1931 in the close-knit community of Hanging Limb, Tennessee, Betty was the second oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Martha Ann and Elbert Key, brother Elbert Jr., sisters Jennell and Frances, by her devoted husband, Gene Norrod, and son-in-law Larry Myers. She is survived by her brother James Key.
In 1949, Betty and Gene began their life together in Michigan, where they raised two beautiful daughters, Judy Lynn and Libby Gail. Betty’s life was centered around her faith, her family, and her home—each of which she nurtured with unwavering love and care.
Betty brought with her to Michigan the warmth and charm of her Southern roots, along with a few unforgettable sayings that became part of her family’s everyday language. Whether it was “It’s black dark outside,” “Bless her heart,” or her sweet way of saying “Hers so precious” or “Hims so precious” when speaking of her grandchildren, Betty’s words were as comforting as her presence.
Betty had a gift for making people feel welcome. Her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of cakes, pies, and homemade candy and the taste of “very” sweet tea. Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition, where family gathered around her table to share food, laughter, and love. She delighted in entertaining friends and family, creating a warm and joyful space where everyone felt like they belonged.
If you knew Betty, you knew Judy Myers (John) and Libby DeCoste (Tim), her pride and joy. That same deep love extended to her grandchildren, Philip Jason Myers (Kate), Lia Frances Batts (Alex), and Ava Gail DeCoste, and later to her great-grandchildren, Madison Justine and Blake Betty Myers, who brought her endless joy in her final years.
Betty’s legacy is one of kindness, hospitality, and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, beginning with a gathering at 10:00 am, until time of service at 11:00 am, at Crosspointe Christian Church 21336 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236.
