Dear Uncle Herbie -
Even when it seemed like we had 1000 people in someones backyard or the pool, I always knew where to go for a laugh. I’ll miss the jokes (especially the ones I probably wasn’t supposed to understand), the twinkle in your eye as you told them, and the wink that always came with the punch line. I’ll miss the friendly rivalry between Green and Blue even though I always knew I’d lose that argument...

Miss you Uncle H...

God Bless and GO BLUE (just this once)... Trev

Dad- so many things make me think of you. Growing up I was grateful to learn and play sports, it helped me get through many gym classes and prove girls could throw a spiral, going with you on road trips because “ I was the one who would keep you awake” You loving called me ratchet jaws. I’m sure I got my confidence from you, because being German WE are superior and always right. Daddy I love you and will miss you so much. When I meet you again, we will watch Football funnies like we did at the Football Hall of Fame.
Love Karen

Dear Herbie,
Paging through so many wonderful pictures of our family parties feel blessed. Births, baptisms, birthdays, graduations, weddings and holidays celebrated through all those many years. Love and laughter radiated from everyone. We truly enjoyed each other's company from the youngest to the oldest relative. Fun times! Can't forget you and Jack off in a corner snickering over some joke or another, always looking for trouble. Herb, know how much you appreciated Carla's devotion to you and your family. And of course, never stopped bragging about her cooking. You two made a handsome couple and worked hard during your 61 years of marriage. Can give yourself a pat on the back for living a full life. You'll be missed brother-in-law. Remembering you with love, Barbara

I remember how happy you were that I was taking German in high school. I never learned enough to hold up my end of the conversation but I did manage to learn the words that matter.

Ich liebe dich von ganzem Herzen mein wunderbarer, freundlicher, liebevoller Onkel. Bis wir uns wiedersehen.

Hopefully, I didn't have a John Kennedy moment and profess my love for jelly doughnuts.

Thank you for always pulling rank and letting me sit in the back seat of the station wagon even though it wasn't my turn.

When we meet again I'm sure you'll have some new jokes but I will bring the rattle just in case.

From the first time I saw you standing in our living room on Chelsea , in your big overcoat and cigar talking German to mom I was suspicious. Not too long after my big sister is trying to explain that she not going to live at home any more because she married Herbie .Guess I can forgive you for that Herb. You were the best ! Always good natured and ready with a bad joke. Hope you have found peace. You will always be in my heart.

Awwww, Mr. Hack. I'm going to miss you, sir. Although Krista and Karen shared Herbisms with your fans via FB, it just wasn't enough. I wish I would have visited you and Mrs. Hack. The shots across the bow (aka our front yards) during The Game; the air horns; the flags and blankets; the congratulatory beers - all wonderful memories. My dad didn't like ANYONE but he loved YOU. And your home was our PEACEFUL safe haven - Betty and we kids were always so thankful and grateful that you and Carla would always welcome us with open arms, no questions asked. You will always, ALWAYS have such a special place in my heart, Mr. Hack. And when that car sped by and ripped off your opened car door - that could ONLY happen to YOU! Thank you for being in my life, Herb. You are definitely an Angel from and with God. See you when He calls me Home!
Our love, prayers and condolences to Carla, Cub, Brian, Bob, Karen, Eric and Krista, in-laws, friends, and all grands and great grands.
Much love,
Carol Saylor-Terry, Jim, Jackie & Patty and Grands xoxo
