John Lawrence Richards Jr. was born on August 29, 1948, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to parents John and Carol Richards. John passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 77. He was a longtime resident of Clinton Township, Michigan. John will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection by all who knew him.
After high school, John furthered his education and went on to earn his associate’s degree—an early reflection of the steady determination and work ethic that would shape his life. He later served in the United States Navy, carrying himself with the quiet discipline of one who understood duty and commitment, and who gave of himself in service to others.
John married the love of his life, Cynthia, and together they shared 48 happy years of marriage. Their life was built on devotion and care, and that spirit carried into the family they raised. He was the proud father of three children: Eric (Leslie) Richards, Scott Richards, and Rebecca (Brenden) Gamble.
John is also survived by his siblings Paul Richards, Mark Richards, Lisa Reichardt, and Carol Richards. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Dave Richards and Debbie Crow. He is further survived as a brother-in-law to Mike Crow.
In his quieter moments, John found comfort and enjoyment in music, and he also liked to listen to his ham radio—simple pleasures that suited his gentle nature and thoughtful presence.
