Lance Nolan Avery (aka Spyman) age 57 of Royal Oak, Michigan passed away on December 9, 2019. He was born on July 1, 1962, to the proud parents of Nolan and Doris Avery. He is the beloved husband of Joanne P. Avery for 27 years. Lance is the cherished brother of Eugene (Malessa) Johnson and Daniel Tanner. He is the loving brother in law to Janis Rogers and Diane Kreitz. Lance will be missed by many family and friends.
Lance was a larger-than-life blessing to all who had the privilege to know him. An avid foodie and wine lover, a laborious entrepreneur, and an intrepid world-traveler, Lance exemplified what it meant to truly savor the life he was given. He was also a rare talent in the kitchen who shined every Christmas when Lance and his loving wife, Joanne, made cookies for their neighbors – always hand-delivered with the same selflessness, humility, and disarming demeanor Lance exhibited every day.
A trusted listener and advisor in tumultuous times, in good times, and every time you needed wisdom, Lance’s quick wit and ability to say all the right words was uncanny; he deeply felt the emotions of his friends, and always lent a helping hand. Lance could whisper to dogs, too! There was no dog Lance met – all around the globe – that didn’t instantly love him. He was a rush of fresh air and endearing compassion to all he met.
Lance’s time on earth was one of infectious passions, exhilarating friendships, and deep adoration for every life he touched. Lance will live on in everyone who knew him - in our acts of kindness, in our relationships, and in all of our unforgettable memories we shared with his trademarkable laugh and soul-warming smile.
He will be missed dearly and loved forever.
Family will receive friends on Thursday December 19, 2019, beginning with a celebration of life service at 5:00 pm, at the Hyatt Place located at 422 North Main Street in Royal Oak, Michigan 48067. They will have continued visitation from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Arrangements entrusted to Kaul Funeral Home St. Clair Shores Chapel.
