Leo D. Hauer, age 73, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1944, and was a lifelong resident of the Detroit area. Beloved husband for 46 years of Diana Hauer (nee Pode), father of David Hauer (Melanie) and Catherine Ellis (Michael), and brother of Mary Wysner, Harriet Ludjin, Marguerite Legutki (Wayne) and the late Edna Hauer. Leo was a career educator, spending 35 years in the teaching profession, including over 20 years as a principal in the Detroit Public School System. He enjoyed watching all sports, but particularly the Detroit Red Wings, having seen the team play in Olympia Stadium, Joe Louis Arena, Little Caesars Arena and 14 other visiting arenas. Leo also enjoyed geocaching, spending time with his son and friends as they “looked for Tupperware in the woods.” His faith prepared him for death and he, in turn, prepared his family, making this final transition one of peace and tranquility. Friends and family will be received from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM (rosary at 7:30 PM) on Tuesday, March 20, at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48081. Leo will lie in state starting at 9:30 AM followed by a Christian burial mass at St. Isaac Jogues in St. Clair Shores on Wednesday, March 21, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Leo can be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
