Sue was deeply rooted in her Christian faith and devoted her life to serving God and others. Throughout the years, she faithfully served her church communities in many capacities, including leadership in Singles Ministries, volunteering to help build a church in Tobermory, Canada, and participating in an overseas mission trip to Kosovo. She also gave her time and compassion to working with pregnant women at risk in Detroit. Sue was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, St. Clair Shores Assemblies of God, Solid Rock Church and Christ Community Church, and served as Deacon at Christ Community Church. She was also a devoted choir member, starting at Pershing High School and then extending her talents by joyfully singing praises to God with multiple church choirs. Her time and involvement in church provided cherished friendships that have lasted throughout the years.
Above all, Sue was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was married to her loving husband, Sgt. Donald Devantier, for 36 years years before his untimely passing. She is also preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Devantier; her parents, Frederick and Myra Brown; her brother, Richard Brown; and her granddaughter, Amber Shank.
Sue is survived by her children Carolyn (Dave) Bradt of St. Clair Shores and Jeffrey (Daria) Devantier of Charlevoix; her grandchildren Stephanie (Troy) Spolum of Geneva, Illinois, Emily (Jeff Haddad) Johnson of Williamston, Michael (Marissa) Devantier of Windham, Ohio, Jace (Laura Ritaco) Devantier of Royal Oak, and Miciah (Kerry) Lofton of Peck; and her great-grandchildren Kendall and Drake Spolum, Liam and Iris Devantier, and Eleanor Lofton.
Sue found great joy in time spent with her family. She created countless treasured memories skiing, camping, and vacationing together. She was an avid golfer and gardener with an immense love of flowers. A gifted homemaker and police officer's wife, Sue enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for her children, cooking, and entertaining. Christmas was filled with lovely memories, like ornament making and hosting Christmas gatherings filled with hors d’oeuvres and cookies. Sue and Don also shared a beloved tradition of taking their grandchildren to Huckleberry Railroad each Christmas—one Sue lovingly continued after his passing. The family also holds dear many memories made at her lake getaway in Lexington.
Visitation will be held at Kaul Funeral Home, St. Clair Shores, on Friday, January 16, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. An additional visitation will take place on Saturday, January 17, at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Community Church in Roseville, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
Sue will be laid to rest next to her dear husband at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Clinton Township.
Sue’s life was a testament to faith, service, love, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
