Vernon Elwood Shannon, age 74, of St. Clair Shores, originally from Madison Heights, was born on June 26, 1949. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, his daughters, Michelle & Pamela, step-son, Craig, grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelly, Austin & Kala, great grandchildren, Hanna, Ty, Clayton, Levi, Maci, Maddyx & Tristin, a sister, Yvette (Ron), nieces, Christine, Tina & nephew, Jeff. Preceded in death by his parents, Gerald & Iva (Hazen) & stepson, Steven.
Vern retired from The Detroit Free Press as a foreman. Vern served in Vietnam between 1966-69 & was awarded 6 medals & the military honor of Purple Heart. Vern was a hands-on guy who you could count on for help. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman who loved his family. He will be dearly missed.
A visitation for Vernon will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081. Funeral service will occur Friday, December 22, 2023, at Kaul Funeral Home, beginning with a gathering at 9:00 am until time of service at 10:00 AM.
Vernon will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, Michigan 48442, following the services at 1:00 pm, all are welcome to join.
