I just found out about the death of Bill.  I knew Bill from the 1970’s - 1990’s.  He was truly a special, loving and kind man.  He will be missed by many.  Sue Pierce, Mesa, Az

I just recently recieved a copy of Mr. Petrocy's obituary.  My friend, Melanie Mooers, always had "Nick's" design her jewelry. She also bought me several original pieces from Nick's.   She gushed about Bill & his family.  I was with Melanie & Diane, another patron of Bill's in a deli in St. Clair Shores.  Bill prepaid our bill when he left before us.  What a sweet man.  I am so sorry.

I have known Bill since I was little.  My father Al matson and he were Shrine friends for years.  Bill was a wonderful warm, happy man and i treasured his frienship!  I will always remember his smile and his charming ways!  lAURI MATSON BROWN

 As many have said here Bill was one terrific guy.  Bill was a friend of my parents for many years.  I have not lived in SCS for over 40 years but when I think of there Bill & Nicks Jewelry is one of the things I think about.  Bill & my dad hunted together, shot skeet & trap and it was Bill who got Dad in the Masons.  I have many fond memories of him - especially going to the circus.  Alice & Sue you may remember me. Even though Bill is no longer here, his light will always shine on you and I hope that you will feel his warmth and love. He was a man that loved his family and accepted others for who they were and never gave judgment on anyone. He will be missed deeply.

I was so sorry to hear about Bill!  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It is difficult to express the depth of our sorrow for your loss. Unfortunately I have spent a great deal of time thinking about loss recently. To use a quote from a piece like this one that I wrote last week, “we want to believe that the end is the beginning; yet it is hard for us to move past our end”. The circumstances of his untimely passing reinforce my belief that life is precious and we all need to live our lives as he did (very large) and express our love to one another every day. 
It is important for me to reflect on our family's life with P and the many experiences we shared together; we are so much richer for having had him in our lives.
One of our most treasured family heirlooms is the grandfather clock which sits in our dining room. It seems fitting that the clock has stopped. While visiting Detroit on November 1 during a family emergency I sped down Mack Avenue past Nick's and onto Emily's for meat pies. Not living in Detroit any longer they were a special treat and gave us comfort during an otherwise difficult visit. The thought to stop in passed my mind; it's been quite a while but I sped right by.
There were many trips; Saugatuck, Williamsburg, Gaylord and an amazing journey with my folks to Asia. Halfway through the trip my father learned of his own father's passing. P was there to help him through it. 
P was the ultimate sportsman and I was lucky enough to experience many firsts though him. I shot my first clays with him and my dad; didn't hit a one. There was a trip to Point Peele in the middle of the night during the smelt run; as I recall Sue and I were assigned to the cleaning and eating detail. 
I spent many hours at the store. It was as much a social hub as it was a business complete with a cast of characters so diverse you couldn't possibly recreate a crew like that no matter how hard you tried. If it ticked or glistened there was only one place for our family to get it so it was only fitting that I bought the engagement ring that my wife has been wearing for the last 25 years at Nick's. Speaking of the ring, P also helped film our wedding in 1990; that was a great party.
When I was little I was dazzled by the circus and when I was an adult I was lucky enough to get the backstage tour. Aside from the wonder of the performers and animals we were most grateful for the insight he shared with us regarding the cats; talk about pissing on someone's parade! Lucky for us we stayed high and dry.
There was one of the best birthday presents my dad ever received, a gorgeous blonde who stole all of our hearts right from the start. Yardley was the greatest family dog we could have ever hoped for; he was not much of a hunter but it never mattered to us. 
P helped make arrangements for a masonic memorial service for my grandfather, Joseph DeSandy. He also helped our family arrange a beautiful masonic memorial service for my father, Gil DeSandy; it is hard to believe but that was 17 years ago. I will always remember the closing analogy from the service and it goes something like this; we are all at the gate mourning the departure of our loved one. They make their journey and upon their arrival a crowd has gathered to welcome them who are as joyous as we are sad. William I hope that upon your arrival Gil was one of the ones waiting there with a smile and a laugh ready to share a story over a belt. I know that he considered you as one of his greatest friends and you two are now together again.

Sweet Janiece...I can't even imagine your pain and grief.  Bill was a "larger than life" guy and I know that your memories of him will be just as "larger than life".  We have such wonderful memories of Christmas in Montana and the "guys'" hunting stories, and our fun times together.  I pray that these, along with all your other wonderful memories, will sustain you during this difficult time. You took care of Bill when he needed it and fill his life with happiness during your time together.  I am so glad that he had you in his life all of these years! Dear Alice and Susan...you gave your Dad so much joy.  I know that your pain is so deep, but it is only because your relationship and love was so deep.  I hope your great times with your Dad will warm your heart while you grieve your loss.  Bill Petrocy was a friend without measure to my husband Bill Munro.  While my Bill's memory continued to fade, Bill P. continued to call and keep in touch with Bill.  The last time they talked, I heard my Bill say to Bill P. " we always had such good times hunting together"....this from a man who now can't identify the types of food he eats.  The last time Bill P. visited us, he had a lovely visit with my husband and then cried his heart out in front of our house for the loss of my Bill's memory...but he kept calling.  He was an AMAZING friend.  Rest in peace, Bill.  All my love to the family.
