William Louis Dommer, Jr. was born in Lansing Illinois on June 26, 1924 to William and Catharine Dommer. He passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa California on January 28, 2013, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elaine and his eldest daughter, Susan. He is survived by his daughter Sharon and her family; his sister Edna McGinnis of Attica, IL; and brother George of Lansing, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill, as he was known to those who were fortunate to have known him, was a kind and compassionate man. He was always ready to listen and lend a helpful hand. He fondly reminisced about his childhood and his colorful family. As children, we never tired of stories of Uncle Will and Uncle Potato, him making root beer in the cellar, or our great-grandfather taking his Indian motorcycle into a photo shoot. In 2000, Bill was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, in Beloit, WI. He was the announcer the night the “shot was heard around the state” and a member of the “Fearless Foursome” a great group of Monday morning quarterbacks, if there ever was, on Radio Station 1680 am – WBEL. Bill served on many Boards, including: The Beloit Boys Club; Beloit Boys Basketball Association; Beloit Catholic High School Athletic Association; Beloit High School Booster Club; and organized the drive for lights at Telfer Park.
An internment ceremony is being planned for the Summer 2013, at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
