It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Genevieve Rajca Nowacki on January 10th at the Charles LeMoyne Hospital at the age of 89. She is the first-born daughter of Franciszek Rajca (1979) and Maria Paterak (1976) and beloved wife of Leon Nowacki (2020). She is the loving mother of Wanda/Wandzia (2025) and survived by devoted daughters Francine and Mary Ann (Frank), doting Babcia to Jennifer (Jeremy), Michael (Meghan), Alyssa (Laurie), Steven, Tyler (Melissa) and cherished great Babcia to Evan, Malcolm, Eva and Lennie. She was preceded in death by sisters Helen (2023), Stephany (2024), brothers-in-law Henry (2002), and sister-in-law Paranka (2021). She is survived by her sister Jane and sister-in-law Mary, many nieces, nephews, godchildren, including family across Canada, the United States and in Poland. She diligently and faithfully maintained contact with many.
Genny’s talent, and love for her family was expressed in her cooking delicious meals, baking cheesecakes, trifles and squares, preserving jars of fruit and vegetables, especially pickles, grown in the backyard garden, and peaches that she and Leo picked on their regular trek to Welland. Holiday celebrations shared by all the family were always a loving testimony to her culinary talent and art.
She delighted in crocheting for family, friends, and newborns, who were graced with her creations in favourite colours or neutral shades, respectfully for each loving recipient.
Part of her working life was spent at Simpson’s Department store where her appreciation for fine jewelry was honed. With her gift of knowing several languages, she serviced customers in English or French, having attended early primary school in French prior to transferring to English education. After moving to the South Shore, she found a jewelry store closer to home where she continued to work and maintain a work life balance.
For many years, Genny enjoyed singing with the church and Lehman choirs. She and Leo were active within their church and various Polish organizations, such as the Polish War Veterans Society, and the White Eagle Club. She also enjoyed bowling, aquafit and spending time at the Almage Senior Centre with lifelong childhood friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 21st from 2:00 - 8:00 at La Maison Darche 7679 Taschereau, Brossard.
A mass will be celebrated on Thursday January 22nd at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church, 2250 Gascon Avenue, Montreal, QC. H2K 2W6. A small reception in the church hall will follow. Burial at a later date.
