Donald Warren Nagel, father, brother, son and friend — departed this world on the 14th of September, 2025 at the age of 78. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the first of five children to Don and Marilyn Nagel. Don grew up in Fairfield, Ohio surrounded by his four loving siblings and many friends.
Because of his academic grades, excellent sports ability, and good character, his football coach encouraged Don to apply to the US Military Academy at West Point. He was appointed with the class of 1969 and earned the honor of being the first graduate of Fairfield High School to attend West Point. During his junior year, Don was introduced to his first love, Janet Anne Cernik, and the couple married in West Point’s Catholic Chapel, following Don’s graduation. While on his first assignment in Bad Kissingen, Germany, Don and Janet welcomed their son, Christian, in November of 1970. Heather, their first daughter, was born in January of 1972.
After five years of military life, Don found great success in his civilian life. Third child, Jennifer “Tessa” was born in Florida in February of 1976. The family then relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where all three children spent their school-age years. Don’s exceptional sales performance led to a strong professional reputation, career advancement, and multiple awards during his many years with Baxter Medical Supplies.
After 30 years in suburban St. Louis, Don bought a peaceful home on a lake in the rural town of Robertsville, Missouri. Don met and married his second wife, Mary Nail, while living in Robertsville. They spent many years together and enjoyed precious time visiting with her son Mike and his wife Shelly.
Two of Don’s favorite pastimes were collecting sports cards and enjoying the impressive record collection he amassed over his life. His knowledge in both of these fields paid off when you were lucky enough to be on his trivia team!
A new chapter of Don’s life began when he became a grandfather in 2021. His son Christian and partner Wednesday’s sweet daughter Solana often brought sunshine and smiles into Don’s life, as they live in nearby Maplewood, MO.
Don will be greatly missed by all who love him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Brian. He is survived by his three loving children; his beloved granddaughter; his sister Cindy Krause (husband Doug); brother Craig (wife Jan); brother Scott (wife Gigi); his former spouses, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
