He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Louis Goodheart and Lillian Duquette, his beloved son, John Goodheart, and his sister, Nancy Gillis.
On October 3, 1964, Ed married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, faith, and family.
Ed proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, an experience that helped shape his character and lifelong appreciation for dedication, service, and discipline.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Goodheart; his children Chris Goodheart (Michelle), Brian Goodheart, Heather Kuehnle (Michael), and Karen Byrns (Matthew); his cherished grandchildren Devin Goodheart, Alexander Byrns, Michael Goodheart, Alexis Byrns, and Caitlyn Goodheart; and his loyal companion, his dog Charlee Goodheart.
Ed enjoyed life’s simple joys and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He found peace in afternoon naps, visiting the Botanical Gardens, attending performances at The Muny, and taking trips to Colorado and Branson. He loved spending time with family, going on outings, walking his dog, dining out at restaurants where, as he liked to say, “he could be served,” and meeting new people wherever he went.
Ed will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, humor, and the genuine way he made everyone feel welcome. His love for his family and his zest for life will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
A Committal Service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, located at 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO, 63125, on November 21, 2025, starting at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
