

Janet Lea (Burns) Polk, 89, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 12, 1935 Janet was raised in Flat River, Missouri, the daughter of Goldman L. and Alma L. Burns.
While attending Flat River High School, she was a cheerleader who proudly cheered on her favorite basketball player—her future husband, Francis Dale Polk.
On May 29, 1955, Janet married the love of her life, Francis Dale Polk, and together they built a large and loving family. She is survived by her children: Dana L. Polk, Lucinda A. Ogden, Connette S. Polk, and Steven J. Polk; and her sister, Barbara March.
Janet devoted much of her life to education, teaching at St. Charles West High School, where she coached cheerleading and supported all high school sports. She attended Flat River Junior College and later earned her degree from Lindenwood University, strengthening her commitment to teaching. She touched countless lives through her warmth, encouragement, and dedication.
Janet was a devoted fan of Mizzou and Kansas City Chiefs football, sharing her enthusiasm with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
In death, she joined her parents, Goldman L. and Alma L. Burns; her beloved husband, Francis Dale Polk; and her sister, Sandra Trask.
Her greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, spirited support of the teams she loved, and her unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
Funeral service Tuesday, November 25, 11:00 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road.
