In 1965, Madelyn met the love of her life, Ronald Edward Smyth and they married in May of 1966. Madelyn spent her life working as an executive secretary at Boeing/McDonnell Douglas and traveling with Ron across the country and abroad on vacations. She loved music and she loved to cook and entertain family and friends at their home in St. Charles MO. In 1995 they retired and eventually moved to Largo, Florida where she enjoyed the warm weather and the company of her siblings and friends. While in Florida, Madelyn & Ron loved going on cruises as often as possible until they moved back to the St. Louis area June 2023.
Madelyn is preceded in death by her mother, Jewell Marie Statler (nee Bryson), step-father, Denzel Statler, father, Orville Hoops; her sister & brother-in-law, Linda Sims (nee Hoops) and Jack Sims; three brothers, Orville Jr. Hoops, George Hoops, and John Hoops; and sisters-in-law, Jane Hoops (nee Calahan) and Joyce Hoops (nee LaGarce); brother-in-law, Donald (Sharon) Economon; and nephew Douglas Hoops.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Smyth of Valley Park and her brother James Hoops of St. Charles MO. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Sharon Economon (nee Smyth), Helen (George) Hoops (nee Zbinden), former sister-in-law, Marilyn (George) Hoops (nee Young) along with nieces/nephews; Karen Sims, Diana (Jeff) Randolph (nee Hoops), Richard Hoops, Christina (Shawn) Price (nee Hoops) and Rick Hoops along with many grandnieces and grandnephews, other family members by marriage, and friends.
Memorial Services: March 27, 2026
Visitation (9:00am) and Mass (10:00am) will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Valley Park) with lunch to follow.
