Known as “Chaim”, he shared a wonderful childhood with his sister, Shera (Bradley) Kafka, surrounded by the love, care and support of their parents, the late Rabbi Julius and the late Evelyn (Weiner) Rosenthal, in the suburbs of New York City.
After college, Chaim moved to the City and lived a life of adventure and excitement. He was on the leading edge of technology as an early computer programmer and engaged with everyone he could as a cabbie. He was funny, wildly smart, and very good natured.
His life changed at the age of 44, when he had a debilitating stroke. Once out of the hospital, Shera came to his aid, moving him to St. Louis (where she was raising her family) to be his caretaker. He spent years at Delmar Gardens Creve Coeur, becoming a staff and resident favorite.
Chaim refused to let his situation overwhelm him and keep him from being a part of the world around him. He loved going out for a good steak, spending holidays with his family, and watching tennis, especially the Federer/Nadal rivalry.
He will be remembered as a beloved son, dear brother/brother-in-law, caring uncle to Jordana Kafka (Eric Sikes) and Eric (Ni) Kafka, loving great uncle and cousin, and outstanding friend.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM on March 20, 2026, at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road. Memorial contributions preferred to the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.
