Keith Herman Koen

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our rock and patriarch, Keith Herman Koen. Keith passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital. He was 57.

Born on June 13, 1968, in Germantown, Tennessee, Keith was the son of the late James Dunn Koen and the late Dorothy Himel Koen.

From an early age, Keith was taught the value of service to others, a principle he lived by every day. He dedicated his professional life to law enforcement, proudly serving the citizens of New Iberia with the New Iberia Police Department. His steadfast commitment to justice and his community earned him the respect and admiration of many.

Above all else, Keith was a devoted family man. He was the faithful husband of Cynthia Jagneaux Koen for 27 years and the loving father of Elizabeth Claire Koen, whom he cherished beyond measure. His love for his family was evident in every word, every action, and every sacrifice made on their behalf.

Keith was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of New Iberia, where he generously gave of his time and talents. He was known for sharing scriptures in conversation and serving wherever there was a need, always pointing others toward Christ through both word and deed.

Outside of work and service, Keith found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman who found peace and contentment near the water, always ready to cast a line regardless of the day or hour. His tackle boxes, lures, and fishing gear were treasured companions on countless outings.

Keith was also a passionate supporter of the LSU Tigers, a true fan who bled purple and gold. Saturdays in the fall were reserved for cheering on his beloved Bayou Bengals. In quieter moments, he could often be found reading or talking about war history—a subject he knew and loved deeply.

A man of faith, integrity, and unwavering devotion, Keith Herman Koen leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and strength. While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the promise of eternal reunion and the assurance that he now rests in the arms of his Savior.

Keith is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cynthia Jagneaux Koen; his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Claire Koen; his sisters, Karen Schmitt and Ramona Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends—including his cherished church family at First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Koen, and his infant daughter, Kaylee Marie Koen.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 13 at First Baptist Church with Rev. R.J. Landry officiating. The family will welcome all for visiting at church from 1:00 pm until time of services.

In memory of Keith, the family kindly asks that guests dress in fishing or LSU shirts in his memory.
