Born and raised in Bacnotan, LaUnion, Philippines, he graduated from North Provincial High School.
He was preceded in death by his sweet and loving wife, Myrna Delmendo; parents, Francisco and Magdalena Delmendo, and his siblings, Alicia Somera, Juana and Romualdo Delmendo, and Cecile Tiamzon. Sam is survived by his caring and devoted wife, Maria “Mae” Delmendo; children, Jennylene Pettitt and Mark Delmendo; siblings, German “Gerry” Delmendo, Delia Cosca, Francisco “Kiko” Delmendo, Margarita “Margie” Guzman, and Henry Delmendo; grandchildren, Madilyn and Mackinley Posey, Dominic and Emma Pettitt, and Lincoln and Elias Delmendo, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Sam was a very practical and hard-working man. He worked so hard, he retired twice! He proudly served with the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years and then 18 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Bay Pines VA. In his spare time, he liked to work in his garden and spend time with his family.
Sam was the eldest of ten children and was well known for all of his wise life lessons of which he loved to remind everyone. The most powerful and inspiring detail of his life was the pivotal role he played in providing success to his family and their future generations. After joining the U.S. Coast Guard, his brother German also joined the U.S. military, and together they were able to support family back in the Philippines until they were able to bring several other family members to the U.S. The decisions Sam made provided the entire Delmendo family with priceless opportunities for which we are forever grateful.
