

The family lived in several different places including Tachikawa Air force Base, Japan, Springfield, MA, Trenton, NJ, and Norfolk, Virginia during his childhood. His Father, a career Airman, retired in Austin, TX. Charles graduated from A. S. Johnston High School in Austin. He attended the University of North Texas in Denton where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978, and became a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. While at North Texas, he met his future wife Brenda Johnson. They married in January, 1975, and then moved to the Houston area.
He was a long time volunteer with the Houston Children’s Festival and with the Houston Marathon. He was a Lead Judge in the Computer Science category at the annual Science Fair.
He served as Vice President, then President of the Houston Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He also served as President on the St James School Board.
Charles was an exemplary employee at Southwestern Bell and AT&T for more than 33 years. He worked in Engineering, Marketing, and in recent years provided technical assistance for first responders until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of The Houston Society of Telephone Engineers. During his tenure with SWBT/AT&T, he was instrumental in the development of Voice Recognition technology, Caller ID technology, and the expansion and improvement of the 911 Emergency Network capabilities.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his loving wife of 39 years, Brenda; son Charles Jr. of Austin, TX; daughter Bianca Michelle of Sugar Land, TX; sister-in-law Cassandra Harris of Wichita Falls, TX; nephew Bryant Harris of Irving, TX; Three aunts Venola (M.C.) Evans of San Jose, CA; Nadine Johnson of Gilbert, AZ; Margaret (Joe) Torregano of Gilbert, AZ; uncle O. W. Roberson of Austin, TX; and a host of relatives and friends
