Dorothy was the youngest of eight children born to John Jerome and Mary Adele (DuBois) Cavanaugh. She attended school in Fort Totten, ND, at Saint Michael’s Mission where she was taught by the Nuns how to sew, knit, crochet, clean and cook on a small farm.
Dorothy Margaret Amaro met the love of her life, Joe V. Amaro, while he was serving in Montana for the United States Army Air Force during World War II. They instantly fell in love and were married. Shortly after, they moved to Texas City, TX and had four children and eventually relocated to reside in Stafford, Texas where she lived for 62 more years.
Dorothy was a devout Catholic who loved her family dearly and the Lord deeply. She was a woman of great faith and strength admired for her courage, independence and wisdom. She was well-known for her gracious heart, kindness and love of cooking for her family and friends, especially during the holidays which was her favorite time of the year.

She was an original member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Stafford, TX and was a lifelong member and counsel for many years. She worked various jobs throughout her life that included holiday giftwrapping, which she became highly skilled at along with other various positions in the customer service industry. Her unconditional love for others brought much joy to everyone with her contagious smile, laugh and kindness.
Strong in her faith, she prayed daily to the Lord God Almighty and openly expressed how much she loved her children and all her grandchildren dearly just before her passing.
