Eileen Sedita passed away peacefully at her home on June 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Eileen was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who blessed the lives of all of those who knew her.
Eileen was born April 14, 1949 in Chicago, IL to Hollis and Marian McDonald. She graduated from Marian Christian High School and later attended the University of Houston. In college she met and married Bob Laubenberg and they soon had two children, Stephen and Amanda.
Life did not go as planned. Nevertheless, Eileen worked tirelessly, sometimes working 2 or 3 jobs, to provide a loving home for her children. She sacrificed and made sure her kids never went without and were able to participate in every activity, sport or club they chose. She served as their chauffeur, cheerleader, cook and life coach and never missed a game, meet or program. She taught her children the value of a good work ethic and the meaning of sacrificial love.
Later, Eileen was lucky enough to find love again with her husband Johann Gelbmann and happily embraced the role of grandparent (and chief spoiler) to Gracie and Ethan Davis. After Hans died, she was blessed to meet and marry Damon Sedita. They enjoyed nine wonderful years together.
Eileen’s capacity for love and service to others was evident throughout her life. Her love language was gifts, and she showered those around her with gifts of her time, her talents (baking and crafting) and her treasures. She had a heart for abandoned and mistreated dogs, and repeatedly adopted and cared for dogs that no one else wanted. She also loved to serve in her church, and in her later years was active in various ministries including the Catholic Daughters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Marian McDonald and her husband, Johann Gelbmann. She is survived by her husband Damon Sedita; her children Stephen Laubenberg and wife Carey; daughter Amanda Davis and husband Jon; grandchildren, Gracie and Ethan Davis; her siblings Kathleen McConnell and her husband Raymond and their children Scott McConnell, Erin Ivy and Meghan McConnell; her brother Daniel McDonald and his wife Debbie.
We will be celebrating her life at a Memorial Service on Monday, June 7th at 10:00am at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in Eileen’s name to the American Cancer Society.
