Gwenyth Dawn Salisbury, a woman of faith, hope and love, passed away August 9, 2019. During her 93 years she smiled, greeted and spoke to everyone she met, earning her many friends. She was beloved by all that had been blessed to be a part of her life. Her most precious relationship was that of being a grandmother.
Born in Perth, West Australia, she was the 3rd child of George Woolcock and Elsie McLerie. She is proceeded in death by Brother, Darrell Nordstrom and sister, Peggy Woolcock Van Ruth.
Gwen was a member of W.A.A.A.F., a branch of the Australian Air Force during World War II and received a War Medal and General Service Badge. It was during the war, that she met Robert Salisbury, a navy submarine operator. She became a war bride and immigrated to the United States soon after, residing in California. During her marriage, Gwen had 3 sons, Darrell Patrick Salisbury, Peter Salisbury and Paul Salisbury, Paul having proceeded her in death.
Gwen moved to Sugar Land, Texas in the 80’s to help raise her granddaughter Elizabeth Salisbury Hopman. Both were the treasures of each other’s lives.
She is survived by her sons, Darrell Salisbury (wife, Elfriede Salisbury), and Peter Salisbury. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Salisbury Hopman (husband Ian Hopman) and her great- granddaughter, Heidi Hopman. She would want to thank her beloved friends, Kathy, Larry, Ralph, Pat, Danielle, Rosio, Dorothy, Irene and many more who were with her to the end.
Gwen loved the ocean. She also had passions in life for reading, gardening, friends and family and of course the Lord. She was an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, a volunteer of St. Vincent DePaul, and a knitting instructor for the Senior Center and a Member of the Gathering Place.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church or a charity of your choice in her name.
Through the many good and difficult turns in life, you walked with the Lord. May you find eternal peace now in his arms. You are beloved by all that have been blessed to be a part of your life.
