Helen Mary Faour, gracefully entered her Lord’s arms on Sunday, the 1st of March 2020 at the age of 97. Helen built her life around the deep love and devotion she held for her family, friends, and Savior, Jesus Christ. Helen was always a source of strength and support to those in need, her presence always brought warmth to the hearts of all those around her.
Helen was born to George and Mary Kattar on October 3, 1922 in her father’s hometown of Beaumont. As a young child, she moved to Houston and created endless memories of family and friends growing up on the north side of Houston. Those childhood friendships lasted her a lifetime. Her journey to Houston also delivered her another loving mother, when her father married Wadiha Kattar. Helen followed her Catholic journey as she graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in downtown Houston with her sister, Josie. The two sisters found laughter, love and support together with their tight knit group of friends, no adventure was too large or small for this amazing group of young ladies. After graduation, Helen spent her career with the Houston Belt & Terminal Railway supporting their data entry and accounting needs. Helen developed a love for the railroad, recognizing the rails unite cities and communities in the same way that her personality unites the hearts of people. Helen was an active member of the National Association of Railway Business Women, twice being presented their Woman of the Year Award for her acts of kindness and generosity to the less fortunate. Helen married the love of her life, William Faour, in 1985 and grew to understand she could only experience true joy through the blessing of love. Helen also retired in 1985, to dedicate herself to serving the needs of others, she was a tireless fundraiser and volunteer for the Ladies Charity Club and the NARWB. Helen was an active member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, regularly participating in Mass which brought her great joy, comfort and enrichment. Helen taught everyone that she met the importance of kindness, individuality, commitment, charity, and Christian behavior. We learned from Helen that following the beat of a different drum often leads us to where we truly belong.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, William Faour, her step-daughter, Loretta Lee Faour, her parents, George Kattar, Mary Kattar and Wadiha Kattar, her sister, Josie Elvey, brother-in-law, John Elvey, cousins, JoAnn Massad, Theresa Jamail, Georgette Holcomb, Helen Jamail, Lucille Jamail, Joe Jamail, George Jamail, Mike Jamail, dear friends Lillian Harris and Anna Merenda.
