
Jeanne Gardiner Boothe Lindsey was born to Samuel Walter Gardiner and Jeanne Ware on June 13, 1917 in the family's home in Ville Platte, Louisiana. She was the fourth of six children--three girls and 3 boys. Jeanne passed away October 28, 2013 in Sugar Land. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas. She met Army Lt. Walter Lea Boothe, Jr. from Sweetwater, who was stationed in Galveston practicing coastal artillery strategy at Ft. Crockett, and they were married in Galveston on Jul 22, 1937. While living in the Sweetwater, Texas area he was called up for active Army service in World War II and was sent to Camp Edwards near Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts for two years. When Lea left for Africa and Europe during the war, Jeanne returned to live with her mother on Red River in Avoyelles Parish Louisiana. Upon Lea's return from the war, they lived in Bunkie, Louisiana before returning to Sweetwater. Lea was a rancher and the County Judge and Juvenile Judge of Nolan County. They were later divorced.
Jeanne was a homemaker and raised three children, Bettye Anhaiser, Barbara Loyd, and Clyde Boothe. A lifelong Methodist, she was active in the United Methodist Women in Sweetwater, taught Sunday School, as well as was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. In 1957 they moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where Jeanne worked for Investors' Diversified Services, the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation, and the Welfare Department of Louisiana before retiring in 1982. She was the American Business Women Association Baton Rouge chapter's Woman of the Year in the 1970s.
She married Hollis Womack Lindsey, Jr. on Oct 8, 1977 in Sugar Land, Texas, and they lived in Baton Rouge. After Hollis' death in 1982, Jeanne moved to Sugar Land to be near her children.
She enjoyed the newspaper, books, poetry, crossword puzzles and her pets. She was a member of the Terry's Rangers Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Earlier in her life she belonged to the Republican Women of Fort Bend County, the Fort Bend Museum, and the Sugar Land Garden Club, and the Sugar Creek Garden Club.
She is survived by her children Bettye Anhaiser (Leon)and Clyde Boothe of Sugar Land and Barbara Loyd (Paul) of Fredericksburg; her grandchildren James and John Anhaiser, Noel Stibora, Amy Davies and Clyde Richardson; great grandchildren James, Andrew and Christian Anhaiser, Faith and Britain Stibora, Alex Kuniyoshi, and Harold Davies; her sister Gloria Carlisle of Duluth, GA; and sister-in-law Betty Boothe
The burial will be in the Galveston Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, the United Methodist Committee on Relief or the Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, or the Salvation Army Unit of Fort Bend County.
