

John Chambers, 62 of Sugar Land Texas, passed away on May 26, 2025. John was born on August 25,1962 in Monahans, Texas. He was the son of James Chambers and Patty (Peterson) Chambers. John graduated from Eisenhower High School Houston, Texas in 1981, and later from Firemen’s Training School TEEX, TX A&M in 1987.
John is survived by his wife Ellen (McArdle) Chambers of 32 years, his Children Aidan, Colleen, and Padric Chambers all of Sugar Land, Texas as well as his sister Pam Gomez of Big Spring, Texas.
John suffered severe burns at the age of 12 which fueled his desire to become a firefighter. He first realized his love of firefighting when he was a volunteer firefighter for both Cypress Creek and Tomball VFD’s. John was hired by Houston Fire Department in 1990. He enjoyed 32 years with HFD retiring in 2022. John worked for the Stafford Fire Department for over 15 years on their duty crew as well as for Houston Community College Fire Training Academy as an adjunct instructor for many years. John’s passion for teaching young firefighters filled him with so much joy during his storied career.
John met Ellen in 1991 when they were both volunteer counselors at Camp Janus for burn Children. They married in 1993 and begin their life together. Family always came first for John. He rarely missed little league games, youth soccer games, or marching band competitions. John was active with his sons in Boy Scouts assuring that they both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. The family has many fond memories of all their summer vacations of road trips to New England and Canada as well as visiting as many beaches as possible along the Gulf Coast.
John was a force of nature. He possessed a boundless energy that he channeled into to being of service to others. Although his time on earth was cut short his memory will stay with everyone he knew. He touched many. He will be missed by all. 143.
A memorial mass will be held at St Laurence Church in Sugar Land, TX on Thursday June 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m..
