Joyce Upshaw Frazier departed this world on September 2, 2019. She was surrounded by indescribable love as her new adventure began.

Joyce was born in Douglass, Texas, to Hadie and Lola Upshaw on January 19, 1946. She later moved to Houston, Texas, to attend Texas Southern University (TSU), where she met her first and forever love, Charlie. On December 3, 1965, they married with lifelong friends and family at their side. Over the years, Charlie and Joyce maintained a passion for travel through exploring beautiful locations near and far. Their family became complete in 1991 with the adoption of their son, Matthew.

After completing her Master’s of Education at TSU, Joyce worked to achieve a top ranking position with Xerox before launching her own recruiting company, Input Personnel.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Willie Upshaw. Her surviving family includes her adoring husband, son, sisters (Aline Williams, Thelma Hanson, Evia King, and Erlene Fuller), and a host of loving relatives who knew her simply as “Aunt Joyce.” She will be remembered as a loyal, reliable friend; the first call anyone would make for advice.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Earthman Southwest (12555 S Kirkwood Rd, Stafford, TX 77477). A reception will immediately follow.

During the fifty-five years Joyce has been my best friend we have shared many beautiful memories. The shopping trips, vacations, etc.
My most exciting memory was when she told me about Matthew. She exclaimed he is My Baby! I was so happy for her!
I had no qualms getting up at 7am to attend his christening on a Sunday morning. I will miss her terribly. Charlie , Matthew, Nathan and I love you.

I will miss my friend so much!!!! I met Joyce thirty years ago while I was looking for a job. Not only did I find a job, I found the best friend anyone could ever have! I have so many memories! Matthew and Logan were close in age so we did everything together. Anything for kids, we were there! I will never forget losing our car in the parking lot! We walked for hours till security had to drive us around to find it! Joyce always made the holidays so special! July 4th watching fireworks, Christmas riding around looking at lights and especially Halloween! We loved dressing the kids up and going to the museum! Of course, Matthew and Logan always had the best costumes!😀 I guess we learned together how to be a good mom. She was the best!!! I love you Joyce

My sweet friend! On this day 18 years ago I was talking to Joyce when the plane hit the twin towers. Neither of us could believe what was happening! She was concerned about Sarah , my daughter in Philadelphia. Sarah loved her Aunt Joyce.
When I moved to Houston from Arkansas I taught with Pam and Joyce at Sharpstown Middle School. What a joyous ride!
When Sarah was born in 1980 Joyce came by to visit almost daily until I went back to work. We talked daily. Joyce was my sister by another Mother!
I said goodbye to her in Houston a few weeks ago. I love her and will forever miss her. RIP my friend and sister. You will forever be in my heart. I promise I will look after our sweet Matthew!! He is the son that I didn’t have. Charlie I love you!

Joyce has been my closest and oldest friend since we taught school together fifty years ago. When Joyce quit teaching she opened
her own company near my house in Memorial.
We kept close contact throughout all those years, raising our kids together with our friend Cherylon, who also had taught with us.
I along with my co-workers at Ralph Lauren, nicknamed her “Sister Cleo” because she gave all of us such great advice and life lessons. Both my kids loved Joyce and MATTHEW. My son told me that of all my friends when he was growing up, Joyce was his favorite. He said that he also remembered her black Mercedes and the tan leather perforated seats! I texted Matthew what he said and his response was that he was sitting on those seats at that very minute in that car!
I wish miss Joyce more than I can say... We talked almost daily on my drive to work. We shared our love of family. We also shared our love of fashion and working out.
These are some of my fondest memories...The day she drove up my driveway and I could see her taking a car seat out of her car! I then realized she was bringing her darling Matthew to meet me! We were both so excited!
I can still picture her coming by looking so great in her workout clothes! If I wanted to be assured of a visit during her break at work, all I had to do was tell her that I had just baked some homemade bread and pimento cheese!
I am forever grateful that Joyce was in my life.
