It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marcelo Esteban Garcia, age 35, who tragically left us on March 16, 2025. Born on March 15, 1990, Marcelo was a beloved son, brother, fiancé, friend, and dedicated public servant. His untimely departure has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew him.
Marcelo attended Meadows Elementary School, Dulles Middle School, Dulles High School, and University of Houston-Downtown Law Enforcement Academy where he earned his certification as Basic Peace Officer.
After completing the Police Academy, Marcelo began serving the citizens of Fort Bend County in 2012 as a Deputy with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. His passion for protecting and serving others was evident in every aspect of his work, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues from neighboring cities and counties.
Marcelo was deeply loved by his fiancée, Jessie Box, with whom he shared their vision of a future full of promise and love. Their bond was one of deep affection and shared dreams, and his passing has left Jessie and her daughter Quinn, or as Marcelo sweetly called her, “Baby Girl,” heartbroken.
Outside of work, Marcelo enjoyed fishing with his father and friends. He also loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his fellow motorcycle club members. In February 2022, Marcelo joined the Fort Bend Chapter of the Los Carnales/La Familia MC, a Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club where he was affectionately named “Marshmellow.” During his time with the Los Carnales, he rose to the Rank of Sergeant at Arms. Marcelo grew to know his motorcycle club as a secondary family.
Marcelo’s family, friends, and colleagues will always remember him as a kind and caring soul, quick to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, an infectious smile, and big hugs. His warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Marcelo is survived by his parents, Hermilo and Nora Garcia, his sisters, Aime Monica Leaverton and her husband Kevin Leaverton, Nancy Jean and her husband Logan Jean, Diana Garcia and her husband Nick Osborne, his fiancée Jessie Box, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Friends are invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Marcelo during a visitation to be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S. Kirkwood Road in Stafford, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd in Sugar Land.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 702 Burney Road in Sugar Land.
For those desiring and in lieu of customary remembrances, the family request that memorial contributions be given to Marcelo’s family.
