She was born to the late Alberta Blanche and Ellis Maxey, July 4, 1923, in Longview, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Algie Bell and two sisters; Johnnie Bell King and Estelle Bell Hunt. She is also preceded in death by son, Clifford King and daughter, Diana King Smith.
Thelma attended school in Longview, Texas and graduated from Longview High school. For over 50 years, she lived in Amarillo, Texas where she worked and raised six children before relocating to the Fort Bend County, Texas area in her later years to be closer to family. In Amarillo, she was a longtime faithful member of the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served as the Secretary of the Mission Board. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God.
Thelma was a beloved mother. She was a devoted mother and gave her time and heart to her family. She was extremely proud of her family, and leaves behind beautiful memories. Among her many joys; Thelma was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially during the Christmas holiday. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed football and basketball.
Thelma is survived by four children: Glenn King of Amarillo, Texas, Barbara Smith-Weaver and husband Vincent, of Chicago, Illinois, Joyce Chevalier of Stafford, Texas, and Darrell King of San Antonio, Texas. Thelma will also be forever remembered by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and dear friends.
