

Bruce Hewitt, born October 21, 1937 he passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021. There was a private family viewing. His ashes will be laid to rest at a later date. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kenneth Hewitt and Elise Ricker Hewitt and his siblings Patricia H. Berg and Kenneth F. Hewitt and the mother of his children and former wife, Patricia Baird.
He is survived by his four children, Bruce Baird Hewitt, Leigh Ann Hewitt and her husband Roy K. Anderson, Christina Burnett, and John K. Hewitt (English Gibbs Hewitt). His grandchildren, Delaney L. Anderson, Cullen B. Burnett, A. Brooke Burnett, Trent H. Anderson, Sydney L. Hewitt, Kaila F. Hewitt, and Ryder W. Hewitt. Also, by surviving siblings, Charles B. Hewitt, Janet H. George, Karen E. Steidel and Douglas K. Hewitt along with his numerous extended Hewitt Family.
Bruce was an Alexandria VA native, graduate of Annandale High School Class of 1957. He held the basketball record for lead scorer in the state in 1956-57. He also lettered in Track and Football. He attended WVA Tech and Morris Harvey College in WV. He married his college sweetheart Patricia Baird on Dec 2, 1958. He was drafted into the Navy in 1961. He was on the Navy All Star Basketball team, the “Sublanders” in 1962-64 and in the 1964 Olympic trials. Bruce was a Fairfax County PE teacher and Coach at West Springfield High, he coached Freshman football and Varsity basketball.
He left teaching to open H&H Motorcycles a Triumph and Yamaha dealership in Springfield VA and a Kawasaki dealership in Triangle VA.
He started numerous entrepreneurial business ventures in his lifetime from “Docs Video” with his eldest son Bruce, (the first to deliver videos) to ”Stumpbusters” a good pun on the movie Ghostbusters. Always the hardest worker in the group he surpassed lots of young guns that couldn’t keep up with his vigor.
In addition to basketball, he loved volleyball and cornhole. Always the coach and athlete he would dominate neighborhood volleyball and cornhole tournaments. He also won numerous gold medals in the Senior Olympics, winning in the over 50’s, 60’s and 70’s divisions.
He was an avid collector, restorer and showman of cars, motorcycles and memorabilia.
Bruce loved to travel to car shows, go to Daytona bike week and the beach. He was always up for an adventure and never met a stranger. A good time Charlie, that always rooted for the underdog.
Visitation and memorial with his family will be held November 13, 2021, from 3-5PM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford VA 22554. Guests may speak for a brief time to say a few words or tell a quick story.
