One of my favorite quotes of all time is, “Childhood memories are the buffet we eat from for the rest of our lives.” 

So many of my memories of John are from high school and all are good. I always enjoyed talking with John. He was from LakeArrowhead and I was from Widewater. John and I had different perspectives and opinions, but for some reason we always remained good friends and it just clicked. 

I admired John’s intellect, which he seemed to sometimes want to hide. He was a very bright guy. He would NEVER want to be called a “jock”, but he was quite the athlete. He was competitive and always able to “hang” with the other athletes in sports. He had this wonderful mischievous smile and a great sense of humor. We’d always find something to laugh about, even if there was a degree of inappropriateness about it. 

I ran into him a number of times over the years and we seemed to pick up right where we left off, with a smile, a laugh and mutual respect for one another. It was as if we would revert back to being kids in the hallways, classrooms or gymnasium of North Stafford High School. John Humphrey was a good dude. It breaks my heart to know he’s not here anymore. He was a guy with so much talent. Such a sad loss. 

Prayers are going up for all his family and friends. Simply put, John Humphrey had a good heart and was a really good dude. If you have any talents in your life that aren’t being used, in honor of John, put those talents to use! If you can make people laugh, in honor of John, make them laugh. If it’s being kind to others, in honor of John, be kind to people. If it’s doing good deeds, in honor of John, help that person. It will make us all feel better and help keep John’s memory alive. 

Remember, we will see John again! We have HOPE!! 
Lake Arrowhead will never be the same...Godspeed my brother....I’ll see you in Glory, John.

Judy & Family. I am so very sorry to hear of John‘s passing. I was devastated when I woke up Friday morning and read his message to me. I had just talked to him on Wednesday. We had a lot of great times and a few bad times growing up in the lake. Of course, mom was his mean ole’ bus driver. Didn’t stop him from coming to visit all of us and having a beer for 35+years. He had a heart of gold but didn’t want anyone to know that. He wanted everyone to think he was tough, but we all knew better. I will never forget the time he stopped by to see all of us, he was showing off trying to get my daughter to pay attention to him, he bit the head off of a plastic dinosaur and broke his tooth. He also took her headband that had bunny ears on it and put it on his head. She still didn’t want anything to do with him. I must say I never seen anyone try so hard as he did to get her to like him. In the end, he won. When my dad was sick, John called me almost every day checking on him for 6-7 months. He was one of a kind and lived life by his terms. He was my friend and I will miss him dearly. No more phone calls that start with him saying “What are you doing little girl?” Rest easy my friend, until we meet again. You are with Heather and Danny. I am blessed to have had you as my friend for so many years. 

I am deeply saddened by the loss of the Humphrey kids.  Heather so many years ago and Danny and then John.  I grew up in Lake Arrowhead,   I knew the Humphrey family well, although I was closest to Danny.  He was my age!  I cannot believe the 3 of them are gone!  I moved away in the 80’s.  My parents divorced, but whenever I was in the area I rode around the lake, a walk down memory lane.  There is nothing like childhood friends, we always remember each other no matter how many years pass by!  My heart is simply broken for John and Judy, I’ll keep you in my prayers always!  May you find comfort in knowing your kids will always  live in our hearts....May God bless you and heal you through this incredibly difficult time.  

John was a troubled soul in the end. He had a heart of gold and was a very smart person. Lake Arrowhead was John's happy place. He gave me a fit on the school bus he called me the mean old bus driver along with a few other names. I called him pain in the ass. After the school years John, Danny & Neal would come by my house hangout and drink a few beers. John told me I was a beautiful person and now he knows how much I really cared about the kids that rode my bus. So every time he would see me he said hello beautiful I would say hello ugly.
It is so hard to believe that John, Danny & Heather are all gone. Rest In peace you will be missed. Gloria & Rich 

Good guy with a great heart.  I always think of the "good ole days" when we were all young.  You will never be forgotten by me.

Judy & John, so sorry for your loss.  It's never easy to lose a child but you have lost three.  My heart breaks for you both. I knew John  and his family from Lake Arrowhead.  He was special & was always nice to me.  He gave his bus driver a hard time and in a way it was funny as most people did make her life miserable.  But he was a good young man.  John you must have been in pain and couldn't go on anymore.  We know you are at peace with Heather & Danny.  Rest in Peace..
