

Mr. Sacks was born in New York on January 14, 1945 to Walter and Catherine Smith Sacks.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
He was a navy veteran who had retired after 21 years at the rank of Lt. Commander, and since his retirement from the Navy, he had been employed as Senior Director of Operations and Support for the Navy League of the United States.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years Nina Sacks, a son Christopher Sacks and wife Jennifer; three daughters, Danielle Aldrich-Chellappoo and husband Bheemah, Catherine Sacks, and Michelle Bennett and husband Jeff; four grandchildren, Jura, Avinash, Paige and Michael.
Joseph was a devoted husband and avid dog lover. He was also very devoted to his job. Joseph is a member of St. William of York where he served as an usher. For many years he also umpired softball games.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 2-4 pm with the casket opened to all friends and family, and 6-8pm with a closed casket at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Stafford Chapel. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, May 28 at 12pm at St. William of York Catholic Church in Stafford. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
