Born Betty Mae Beverly, ZZ joined this world on January 2nd, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the seventh of eleven children to George and Lucille Beverly.
Raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she gave her life to Christ as a young child and faithfully served him since. She attended Capitol High School, where she met a young man named Wilbert Vaughn Jr. in one of the many classes they shared together. After graduating High School in May of 1975, she went on to attend Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge. On June 11, 1977, ZZ and Wilbert began a lifetime of love and happiness together as man and wife. They were blessed with five children; (sons) Craig and Wilbert III, (daughters) Talitha, Opal, and Alicia Vaughn.
Wilbert’s military service took ZZ and her family around the globe. As they traveled the world together, ZZ lovingly embraced her role as the matriarch of the family, supporting her husband and diligently caring for her family. In 2016, ZZ and Pastor Wil Vaughn founded Faith Full Gospel Ministries, where she tirelessly and gracefully served as the First Lady for six years. She contributed to her community, donating food and clothing, providing childcare to countless families, and fostering young girls. Through their food pantry ministry and financial aid program, ZZ and Pastor Wil reached countless families in need. She funded and coordinated places to stay for displaced individuals, frequently opening her own home as a respite. Her commitment and dedication to her family, church members, and friends is immeasurable. She steadfastly remained faithful, loyal and willing to do the Lord’s work. The final years of ZZ’s life were full and joyous, devoted entirely to being the hands and feet of her precious Savior.
ZZ was welcomed into the kingdom by our Heavenly Father on February 25th, 2022, having served him to her last breath.
She is preceded in death by (father) George Beverly Sr., (mother) Lucille Beverly; (brothers) Raymond Beverly, Melvin Beverly, Lamont Beverly, and her twin brother Billy Beverly; (granddaughter) Liyah Franklin.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Pastor Wilbert Vaughn Jr., (two sons) Craig Vaughn (Adrienne Vaughn), Wilbert Vaughn III (Gwen Shafer-Vaughn), (three daughters) Talitha Vaughn, Opal Vaughn (Almary Montanez), and Alicia Franklin (Cedric Franklin Jr.); (14 grandchildren) Deja Tregre, Kyah Nettles, Xyliah Nettles, Sebastien Vaughn, Teo Vaughn, Arden Shafer, TreShawn Franklin, Tyson Franklin, Tobias Franklin, Dantin Winnipeg, Andi Winnipeg, Neeco Vaughn, Luka Vaughn, and Kikae Vaughn; (brothers) George Beverly Jr., John Beverly, and Michael Beverly; (sisters) Mary Walker, Patricia Beverly, and Carolyn Franklin. As well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
ZZ was a God-fearing, loving wife and devoted mother to her children. The world has lost a phenomenal woman, but heaven has gained an angel. She was loved by many and will truly be missed. She is now at rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. Well done, good and faithful servant!
