“Keep ‘em flying,” he’d always say, reminiscing his World War II Air Force days. C. Rodney Gibson, 95, joined his beloved wife, Lucy, and their son, John, at the pearly gates of Heaven on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home in Stamford. Rod was born on October 26, 1921. He was raised and educated in New Jersey. He finished his college career at Rutgers University School of Business Administration. With the outbreak of World War II, Rod volunteered to enter the Army Air Corp. At that time, thousands of young men were joining military services. They had perfect vision of 20/20, while Rod only had 20/30. His
eyesight evidently resulted in him not being able to fly, so he became a member of the Army Ground Crew. He was sent overseas to the Southwest Pacific Theater. At the conclusion of World War II, Rod returned to the United States and entered the radio and television field for 13 years. This was followed by
17 years in the cable television industry. Rod is survived by his son, Ted, and his wife, Marlene, his two grandchildren, Brittany and Kyle, and his nieces and
nephews.Visitation will be on Friday October 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 7 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT 06903.
