Catherine was born in Listowel County, Kerry, Ireland, on December 7, 1940. In 1957, she paid her way to the United States by becoming a domestic servant for a family in Greenwich, Connecticut. After working out her contract, she went on to run several butcher counters across the Stamford/Greenwich area until she moved on to what would become her true calling: housekeeper/nanny to several families across the Greenwich area. In each of these households, she helped raise and teach many children. She truly loved these children as if they were her own and her contributions were very important in shaping their young lives.
She touched everyone she met, both in their heart and their spirit, and she will be missed by all.
She was and will remain to be the finest person I have ever met.
Cathy survived by her husband of 45 years, Carroll Allen (of Stamford, Connecticut), her two sons, James Allen and his wife Anh (of San Diego, California) and Stephen Allen, his wife Amy and their son Emmet (of Stratford, Connecticut) as well as her five living sisters: Mary Ballou, Margaret “Peg” Teeling, Joan Piro, Geraldine Lambert and Ellen “Carmel” Campbell.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 29, from 4-8p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 30, at 11a.m. at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich.
