Clarice Barford Flagg

10/8/1916 to 12/11/2015

On December 11, 2015, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother Clarice went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ.

Born Clarice Estelle Barford on 10/08/1916 to parents George Frederick Barford and Clarice Robedee Barford in Hamilton, NY, Clarice and her older sister Brenda were raised by their father after their mother’s untimely death in 1923. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and went on to work in the art department there. On June 22, 1940 she wed John Flagg and raised two children in Schenectady, NY, where she sang in the choir of First Presbyterian Church and was active in PEO (both in Schenectady and in Darien, CT) and garden club there. The family moved to Connecticut in 1961 where she shared her many talents including baking beautiful cakes, knitting and crochet, sculpture, painting, reading, and creating pressed flower cards, never wanting to waste a moment’s time being idle, and enjoying world travel with her friends at St. Paul’s church in Darien of which she was a long-time member. She loved cats and shared her home with her beloved Cleo, before moving into Atria Darien.

Most of all was her tireless devotion to helping people. She has touched countless lives with her faithful service to Christ, always thinking of others before herself.

We are so very thankful for her 99 years on this earth. Her thoughtful ways, cheerful smile, and boundless love will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

She is survived by her children, George Flagg (Joan) of Stamford, CT, and Nancy Savold (Jerry) of Edwards, CO; by her four grandchildren (by age), John Linfesty (Mari) of Santa Monica, CA, Susan Flagg of NYC, David Flagg (Mercedes) of Darien, and Jeffrey Flagg (Sabrina) of Woodland Hills, CA; by her eight great-grandchildren Jake Linfesty, Nick Linfesty, Vanessa Flagg, Alyssa F lagg, Lily Flagg, Samantha Flagg, Luke Flagg, and Cassidy Flagg.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
