Donald Michael Curry

Born on December 8, 1924 in New York City, he was the son of the late Sally Dunn Curry and Frank Ignatius Curry. He was predeceased by two brothers John Vincent and Richard Joseph Curry. Surviving is one brother F. Kevin Curry. He is also survived by his wife of forty seven years, Gladys Lorraine Aster Curry.

He resided with his family in Bay Ridge Brooklyn until 1938 at which time they moved to Riverside, Conn.

Don graduated in the class of 1942 from Greenwich High School. His dad was chairman of the Greenwich Board of Education during that period.

Don served his country during World War II as an Airplane Armorer Instructor, United States Army Air Force in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received an Honorable Discharge as a First Lieutenant on February 4, 1946.

Don graduated from Niagara University in 1950 with a B.S. Degree in Economics. He later received a M.S. Degree in Economics from the University of Houston. He was a member of Phi KAPPA TheTa for over forty years.

Don started his career as a salesman at five years of age by going door to door selling Collier’s Magazine at two cents a copy. Later on Don worked as a salesman in the fragrance field. He then became the Regional Sales Manager for the magazine “Highlights for Children” for twenty years. After a brief retirement, Don was a substitute teacher in the Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan School Systems.

Don had many interests: served on the Stamford Republican Town committee from 1968-1972; Chairman of the Connecticut Conservative Union from 1973-1976: President of Saint Mary’s Holy Name Society from 1994-1997.

Don loved to swim, hike, and play tennis. He also enjoyed attending the local high school football games and the New York Yankee baseball games.

He will be missed by his wife Gladys together with his many friends.

A funeral service was held at the Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford, with interment taking place at Woodland Cemetery. Msgr. DiGiovanni presided over the services.
