Doris Seufert Rowe, 84, beloved wife of Dr. Arthur W. Rowe, passed into eternal life at home on April 11, 2018 after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born July 30, 1933 in Paterson, NJ to Walter M. Seufert and Isobel Craven Seufert. She grew up in Nutley, NJ, where she was an honor student, a varsity athlete, and a Red Cross driver for handicapped children. After graduating with an honors degree in mathematics from Douglass College at Rutgers University, her first career was as an engineer designing refineries for Esso (Exxon) Corporation. Her second career was as a full time mother. After she earned her Master’s degree and 6th and 7th year certificates in education, her third career was as a math teacher for 20 years in the Stamford Public School System, teaching college prep and AP calculus courses at Rippowam High School and at Stamford High School. She also worked part time as a tax preparation specialist at H&R Block. For many years she was Treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She traveled the world extensively with her husband, has visited all seven continents, and has hosted many foreign dignitaries and international scientists at home in Stamford.
In addition to Arthur, her husband of more than 60 years, she is survived by her daughter Chris Rowe Taitt, PhD (John) of White Plains, MD and son William A. Rowe, MD (Margaret) of Hershey, PA as well as three grandchildren Catherine E. Rowe, Esq. of Harrisburg, PA, James A. Rowe of Brooklyn, NY, and John P. Rowe of Harrisburg, PA. She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Walter Jack Seufert, Donald S. Seufert, and Robert A. Seufert. She also leaves behind many dear friends in Stamford, CT, in Marathon, FL, and from around the world.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 am at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1231 Washington Blvd., Stamford. Interment will be private at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County, to the Bennett Cancer Center of Stamford Hospital, or to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
