Edith was predeceased by her husband George Paul Springer, a former Stamford Police officer, her son, James W. Springer and her sister Lillian Floody. She is survived by her two daughters, Denize S. Springer of California and Kim M. Springer of Pennsylvania; her daughter in-law Barbara Springer of Norwalk; her grandsons Kenneth and Douglas Springer; two great granddaughters and nieces and nephews.
A working mom in the days when it was not common, Edith was a customer service agent at Hoffman Fuel in Stamford for more than 30 years. She enjoyed and excelled at several hobbies and crafts including dancing, bowling, crocheting, painting and ceramics. Many a stranger, in addition to her friends and family, were the lucky beneficiaries of one of her lovely hand-made gifts. In addition to her generosity, Edith was known for her love of Stamford’s West Beach and cats, having ensured the long lives of many she adopted, pampered and/or fed. She will also be remembered for her legendary holiday parties, which featured her most prized possession, a player piano. Edith was a graduate of Stamford High School class of 1942 and served on the Stamford Auxiliary Police in her younger years.
The family is very grateful to Edith’s dedicated and loving caregivers, Marilyn Holley and Marie Paul and all the folks at Compass Care.
At Edith’s request, there will be no services or memorials. Cremation was arranged by Leo P. Gallagher and Son in Stamford. Condolences can be made at: leopgallagher.com. Gifts in Edith’s memory can be made to an animal welfare organization or another charity of choice.
