

Elinor F. Kirk, formerly of Stamford passed away peacefully on May 3, 2012 at Apple Rehab in Mystic, CT where she has resided for the past several years. Born in Hartford, CT on June 10, 1927 to the late Helene A. & Edward J. Foley. Elinor was raised in East Hartford, attended Mount St. Joseph Academy and continued on to St Joseph College. She was married for 52 years to Robert V. Kirk, who was the love of her life. He predeceased her in 2005. They began their life and their family in Brooklyn, NY. Elinor was a devoted mother to her 6 children, Elizabeth McAndrew and her husband, Michael of Stonington, CT., Robert V. Kirk, Jr. of Stamford, CT., Nancy Kavanaugh and her husband, Craig of Shelton, Ct., Ellen O’Connell and her husband, Thomas of Alpharetta, GA, Thomas Kirk and his wife, Kathleen of Redding, CT and Mary Reynolds and her husband, Thomas of Penfield, NY. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren, Kathleen McAndrew Sheffield, Stephen McAndrew, Megan Kavanaugh, Michael Kavanaugh, Allison Reynolds, Kevin Reynolds, Thomas Kirk, Sean Kirk and Cailin O’Connell. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Foley, her sister, Elizabeth Foley and her granddaughter, Tierney O’Connell.
Moving to Stamford, CT. in 1963, Elinor and her husband spent 45 happy years in their home. Family was her top priority. Sunday family dinner was a mandatory and memorable gathering where friends were always welcome. Elinor was an active member of St. Cecilia’s parish for many years. After raising her children, she worked for at Cadbury Schweppes headquarters in Stamford.
The family will receive friends at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 4-8 PM. A Mass celebrating Elinor’s life will be held at St. Cecilia Church, Newfield Ave, Stamford, on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery Rockrimmon Road Stamford.
