Florence Shapiro

Florence, aged 91 years, a longtime resident of Stamford passed away on January 18 2015 in Carmel, Indiana, where she lived the past several years near her daughter, Dr. Amy Shapiro Holbreicht. She was the youngest of three children, born in New York City to Nathan and Gertrude (Bryan) Miller. Florence graduated from the High School of Music and Art in New York City, where she excelled in piano. She graduated from City College in New York, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1947.

Florence Bryan Shapiro came from an accomplished family in New York City; her father was a talented jeweler, her sister Susan was accomplished artist, her brother, Dr. Jay Miller was a well-known and respected physician. She was a devoted wife and mother and assisted her husband Jonas M. Shapiro (1916 -1987) in all his endeavors as an engineer and entrepreneur. Florence was a successful realtor in Stamford, owning her own business, Country Homes on Summer St. Later she associated with William Raveis Real Estate. Florence loved the thrill of helping others buy and sell fine Real Estate. She hungered for the personal interactions with her clients, many of which became close friends and were often guests at her home on Merriebrooke Lane.

She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her eldest daughter Laura, a successful Colorado attorney; her second daughter Amy, a world recognized Pediatric Oncologist; and her son Daniel, an inventor, like his father, an electrical engineer. She is survived by her four grandchildren, Mathew, Eric, Rachael Holbreich, and Cara Peterson, as well as several nieces and nephews. She passed her values of hard work and dedication to career on to them. Florence will be greatly missed and remembered for her wit, affable smile, intelligence, generosity, kind heart and love of classical music.

There will be a service at Temple Beth El presided over by Rabbi Joshua Hammerman at 350 Roxbury Rd. Stamford, to be followed by burial next to beloved husband of 40 years, Jonas, in the Temple Beth El cemetery.
