Iosif was born in Minsk, Belarus to Isaac and Sima Levin. He was 11 years old when the Holocaust started and he lost most of his family. He saved his younger sister and 12 other teenagers by helping them escape the ghetto. He escaped a concentration camp in Poland and served in the army as a teenager until the war ended. He then moved back to Minsk and eventually to Riga, Latvia, where he married Anna Levina. He worked as an electrician for over 30 years and moved to America in 1995, where he spent most of his time caring for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Iosif is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Levina, and sister, Maya Krapina.
Iosif is survived by his daughter Yevgeniya (husband Yefroim) Troyb, sister Valentina (husband Lazar) Margolina, grandson Aleksandr Troyb, granddaughter Eva (husband Christopher) Troyb, and great-granddaughters Rachel and Laurel Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 24th at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery.
