
Chesney, John “Jack” passed away peacefully at Waveny Care Center on Sunday, June 26, 2016. Monday, June 27th would have been his 102nd birthday. Jack was born in Yonkers, NY on 6/27/1914, son of Isabella and Robert Chesney who immigrated to the US through Ellis Island from Scotland. He moved to Stamford in 1938 and joined the CCC (“Civilian Conservation Corps”) during the 2nd World War years and traveled around the country on the rails. He worked at Conde Nast as a machinist until 1958 when he and his brother-in-law, Fred (“Fritz”) Zinsser started the Rent-A-Tool company. The Rent-A-Tool Company was a fixture on Havemeyer Lane in Old Greenwich for decades. Jack was an avid golfer and he and his wife, Helen, joined Shorehaven Golf Club in 1979. He was a member of Italian Center in Stamford where he swam and played cards until the age of 99. Jack was married twice, first to the former Marie Zinsser who passed away on 11/22/1972 and then to Helen A. Perkins who passed away on 6/3/2015. He is survived by his three children, John E. Chesney, Patricia C. Mays and Fred R. Chesney, five grandchildren, Michael Chesney, Susan Chesney, Daniel Chesney, Laura Wolton and Todd Chesney, and five great-grandchildren. Friends and family will be gathering at Leo P. Gallagher & Son FH, 2900 Summer St. Stamford, CT 06905 on Wednesday (today) June 29, 2016 from 6-8pm. There will be a funeral service at the Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11am, Interment to follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Masonic Charity Foundation of CT.
