When David closed his eyes for the final time on Feb. 4th to meet his Savior and Lord
Jesus Christ, we lost a wonderful man, a man of integrity with a kind and gentle spirit.
He loved God, his family and his country.
David was born in Moose Lake, MN on Oct. 17, 1932 to Rev. John and Mrs. Ella
Johanson. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, he served in the US
Army during the Korean War and taught for nearly 30 years at Harding High School in
Bridgeport, CT. For many years he was involved in volunteering wherever needed in
church, civic and scouting events.
He leaves a great void in the hearts of Ritva, his wife of 52 years; his daughter Mirja of
Stamford; his sons Karl (Beth) of New Milford and Brian (Andrea) of Roswell, GA; his
grandchildren Rebecca, Lindsey, Ashley, Luke, Abigail, Noah and Nehemiah; his brother
Arnold of Durham, NC and his sister Eldri Gray of Pocatello, ID. He is survived
also by cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4-7 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St.
Stamford. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, February 7, at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church, 471 Mansfield Ave., Darien, CT at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations
can be sent to OM International or Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County.
