

Julia Mae McDowell, affectionately known as Lulu, died peacefully with her family by her side on January 7, 2025. She was born on October 14th, 1956, in Lynchburg, South Carolina the daughter of John Henry and Rena McDowell and grew up in Stamford, CT.
She attended Stamford Highschool and held multiple jobs within the hospitality field. Although her professional career was brief, Julia dedicated her life to being a source of joy, support, and encouragement for others. Whether lending a listening ear, sharing laughter, or simply being present in the lives of those she cared about, Julia left a legacy of love and compassion.
She loved to travel, cook and spend time with her family and friends. Her stylish ways were a reflection of her vibrate personality. She was known to be the life of the party and a friend to everyone. You could always count on her quick wit and tell it like it was attitude.
She was predeceased by her sister Carolyn McDowell and two children, Latayvia McDowell and Dante McDowell. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lafayette Bryant, two sons, Lafayette Bryant (Brandi Hunter), Tyree Bryant, two daughters Kashika McDowell, Kadasha Lomax, and one brother, John Henry McDowell. Five grandchildren, Tyshawn Wills, Jaden McDowell, Katrell Wills, Austin Bryant and Liam Bryant. Five nieces, two nephews and host of great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Leo P. Gallagher and Sons Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905 followed by repast.
Though her time with us was far too short, her light will continue to shine in the hearts of everyone she touched; she will truly be missed.
